Halloween Weekend
Just so you’ll know, South Africans are partiers. Serious social animals. When I was first talking to Les, I was always surprised at how busy his weekends were. It’s just what they do here, and I don’t think it’s a bad system.
On Friday night, we went to Billie and Tristan’s Halloween party, which was really a Zombie surprise party for Les. It was fun. Everyone attacked Les, groaning and shumbling, and pulled him down to the ground. He admitted to being a little freaked out, but was a good sport and extremely touched that everyone had gone to so much effort to surprise him. It was a fun party, and pictures are posted on my Flickr. (Cause I can never get Tumblr to load them.)
Saturday was fairly trying. I was homesick and grumpy all day. We had to go to the mall to pick up Les’s glasses and it was fucking packed. A huge mass of people with questionable hygiene. The grocery store was even worse. We gave up on doing laundry and just headed home.
Everything got better once we were home. It was quiet and there were no crazy people, dad called and I got to talk to him and mom. Les and I relaxed and watched some TV.
Then Les and I went to R and M’s for a braai (barbeque). When we got there, we discovered that our hosts were not planning to braai and were not interested in eating. Les went out and grabbed us some take-away schwarma. We talked and drank most of the evening; we’d planned to spend the night at home, but we were pressed to stay. (It was especially frustrating in the morning when we had to wait for someone to emerge to let us out of the gate.)
We relaxed at home for a bit before driving out to the LARP. (Late, due to neither of us reading the email properly, but it didn’t make any difference.) It was lame.
After several hours of said lameness, Les and I drove out to Elizabeth’s and had coffee. She has an adorable kitten. Elizabeth and I talked about a girlie day, with Pride & Prejudice and knitting. Les showed disgust at the possibility and agreed to be elsewhere.
Yesterday was fairly productive; I edited some photos and went about organizing the ones already online. I hope to work more on that project today.
Les spoke with tPtB about copy editing, and it’s starting to look like a go. Hopefully, I will have some work next week, as the first draft is scheduled for the printer on Friday.
On a personal note, today is Les’s and my seventh monthiversary. We’re gonna do dinner and a movie tonight, and then I’m gonna stay up as late as I can to watch election results.
